The Slaughters - formed of Upper and Lower Slaughter in the Cotswolds - topped The Times' list of the 30 prettiest villages in the UK, which was published on Friday.
The area was lauded as a fitting alternative to the "oh-my pretty and oh-lord popular" Castle Coombe, a village nearby.
The round-up features 30 of the best villages to visit in the UK, along with some information on what to do in each.
Orford in Suffolk came in second place while Lavenham, also in Suffolk, came third.
Other villages to make the cut include Grassington and Staithes in Yorkshire.
The winner is situated next to the River Eye and is famed for its limestone cottages in the traditional Cotswold style.
Its slightly unusual name comes from the Old English word for a wet land 'slough' or 'slothre'
The main attraction is the Old Mill, situated on the western end of the village, which has an original water wheel.
The Mill was built in the nineteenth century and was last used commercially in 1958.
It now has a gift shop, which sells craft products, and a café.
In 2011 Copse Hill Road, in Lower Slaughter, was voted Britain's most romantic street in a poll conducted by Google Street View.
The poll saw 20,000 people vote on a shortlist drawn up by a judging panel of travel, shopping, and lifestyle experts.
The judges noted features such as beautiful architecture, stunning views, a romantic ambience, secluded getaways, restaurants, and hotels.
